The Dohmen Company Foundation purchases Brown Street Building

Milwaukee, WI. April 7, 2021 — The Dohmen Company Foundation has purchased a second building in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood, deepening its investment in the local community.

Previously owned by the YWCA, the 21,740-square-foot building located at 334 W. Brown Street includes office space, a commercial kitchen with food operations and space to house community programs.

“Adjacent to our new headquarters, the Brown Street building provides the perfect location to advance our vision of healthy communities powered by healthy people,” says Kathy Koshgarian, president and chief operating officer. “This facility will be refurbished to house a commercial kitchen in support of growth plans for both our social business, Cooked, as well as the Food for Health charitable program which uses medically tailored meals to prevent and reverse chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and obesity.”

Launched in May 2020, the Food For Health program combines delicious, medically-tailored meals with nutritional and lifestyle counseling. Since its launch, the Food for Health meal program has been delivered to members of the Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative.

“According to the CDC, nearly 700,000 Americans died of cardiovascular disease in 2020—twice as many deaths than those attributed to COVID-19,” Koshgarian says. “It’s time to put a stop to preventable heart disease using clinically proven preventive measures like food. We’re proud to lead the way by expanding the Food for Health program.”

Dohmen is in talks with local contractors to renovate the Brown Street building and will be prioritizing subcontracts with women-owned and minority-owned businesses. Renovations on both the Brown Street and the former Fein Brothers building will begin in the next few months.
